Absent Fathers

We didn’t show much emotion in our family.

I was told to that it was better to just get on with it. Tears were a sign of weakness.

Two months ago my dad went to work and didn’t come back. We couldn’t get hold of him for 3 days.

Then he called to tell my mum that he was leaving her. He’d met someone else.

I’ve never seen my mum cry until that day. I didn’t know what to do. I’d never been shown how to help someone who was upset.

I decided that day too, that I never wanted to hear from my dad again.

Now it’s just me, my mum and my brother. We’ll be ok without him.”
