“There’s been a lot of talk lately about #blmmovement and I’ve kinda kept out of it.
Growing up mixed race in a neighbourhood that didn’t recognise me as one of them, screwed me.
But it was more my mums shame that hurt me more. She hid my brother and sister and me.
One day she got face paints and coloured our faces, to make them less ‘dark’.
Yeah it happened. I felt bad then and I feel bad now.
It hurts not being able to be you and even more when your own family covers you up.”
