The Glorious 4th

Today is the day when America commemorates the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. A day where the country unites and remembers the sacrifices that were made.

The US feels like my second home. I spent many months in California when I was in treatment, and I left a much more complete, nurtured and whole person than when I arrived.
I now feel a sense of independence myself. A feeling of freedom free from my eating disorder in a way I never imagined was possible. I am so grateful to the love I received from my American friends.

So today is a day for sharing time with family and loved ones and for connecting. In my recovery I have strived to do much more of this to share and connect with others, something I found incredibly difficult in my eating disorder.
For me the 4th July is a personal reminder of the special people I was so fortunate to have met during my stay across the pond. I am full of gratitude for everyone who played a part in my healing. I wish you all a truly Happy Independence Day
